Patricia Atkinson Memorial Fund
Although she retired in 2013, Patricia Atkinson's impact and influence at Towson University and its College of Business and Economics (CBE) will be felt for years to come. In 1995, she was one of the driving forces behind the formation of what is now known as CBE's Student Academic and Career Services (SACS), becoming its director in 2004. She developed many of the programs that remain the foundation of SACS—including the Student Consultant program, through which she directly mentored and supervised more than 100 students during its first 15 years.
Everything she did was for one reason: Patricia loved students. Her behind-the-scenes work was driven by her passion, but her love was perhaps most evident in her direct interactions with students as an adviser and mentor. She was always willing and eager to lend a listening ear, guiding hand and thoughtful encouragement. She touched the lives of countless students and kept in touch with many of them long after they graduated, continuing to serve as a source of guidance and encouragement throughout their lives.
Among her contributions to Towson University, Patricia's love for students is her most inspiring legacy, but her door was always open to faculty and staff members as well. She was a wealth of institutional information, and many of Patricia's colleagues relied on her knowledge and perspective to make decisions. She was overflowing with motherly wisdom and was a true friend and confidante to many.
The College of Business and Economics is accepting donations in Patricia's memory, with the hope to start a scholarship for CBE students who serve as peer mentors to other students. Peer-to-peer mentoring and leadership development were causes close to Patricia’s heart. Your donation in her memory will help to ensure those causes continue to flourish among CBE students.
