Celebrating a Fighting Spirit
In the pool, on the volleyball court, the soccer pitch, and especially the softball field, Jude Jawhar was a competitor who loved sports and loved nearly everyone she met. That love was not dampened when, at age 14, she was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.
Despite surgeries, chemotherapy and even an above-the-knee amputation, Jude never lost sight of the dream to return to the softball field nor of her dream to become an oncology nurse practitioner. Her career goals brought her to Towson University in fall 2017.
Unfortunately, Jude’s life was too short to accomplish all her goals; she passed away at age 18 in January 2018. The scholarship begun in her memory helps students with similar dreams see those become reality. Since inception, the Jude Jawhar Nursing Scholarship has given $12,000 in awards to TU nursing students who share Jude's commitment to the nursing profession.
