Honoring and Remembering Dean Julius Chapman
Dr. Julius Chapman, the first Dean of Minority Affairs at what was then Towson State College, had an immeasurable impact on Towson students. In a 12-year career at Towson State College and later Towson State University, Dr. Chapman helped to recruit and nurture African American students during their time on our campus. Towson's Black Student Union and its Black Faculty and Administrators Association were founded during his time here. Dr. Chapman played an important role in the establishment of the Black Cultural Center and was instrumental in helping many Black students complete their Towson degrees.
To honor his memory, the Towson University Foundation has established the Dr. Julius Chapman Memorial Fund to champion advocacy and programming efforts in support of a diverse and inclusive campus community. The Office of Inclusion and Institutional Equity will be responsible for guiding gifts made to this fund to benefit specific campus initiatives which reflect the spirit of Dr. Chapman's incredible work and his vision for TU.
